Today, we’re delighted to announce that Hero is expanding to the U.S. with the opening of our office in NYC, based in the heart of the city’s SoHo shopping district.
I’m also delighted to share that along with launching in NYC, we’re announcing our partnership with John Varvatos, one of the most creative and respected fashion brands in the U.S. Our partnership is helping connect the millions of customers on their website live with their passionate, expert associates in-boutique, through chat, video and true personalization — giving shoppers the comfort to buy online.
“Combining offline and online retail, Hero is unique in helping us transform how we engage with our customers.”
Hero was founded in London in 2015 after seeing the opportunity to integrate ecommerce closer to physical retail by leveraging the familiarity of messaging and communication technology. Since then, the business has expanded through partnerships with a number of major European retail brands, department stores and two of the biggest luxury fashion conglomerates in the world, helping to transform billions of sq. ft. of analogue space into hyperconnected stores of the future. Today, more than 350m online customers can shop live with an associate in locations across Europe and the U.S. significantly boosting retail productivity.
Our vision for the industry is bold and we’re fortunate to have attracted a group of like-minds passionate about changing the industry. Alongside our fantastic team, we have a stellar line-up of strategic investors. Today we’re also announcing the involvement of new investors including Yasunobu Kyogoku, formerly the COO of Uniqlo USA.
Fighting back against the “retail apocalypse”
In 2010, Alistair and I launched Europe’s app commerce business where we saw first hand the need for brands to rapidly innovate on mobile, following the rapid rise of the smartphone. Now, in 2018 we see an equally-ripe opportunity for retail stores to transform their businesses for the digital age.
Over the past 12 months, the entire retail industry has totally inverted. Amazon dominates 44% of the U.S. ecommerce market and is now aggressively opening and acquiring brick and mortar stores. Our retail partners recognize that their biggest opportunity is to transform physical spaces in to digitally-led smart stores — deeply integrated with e-commerce and fuelled by data — while leveraging the human touch and experience of the associate.
We’re proud to be partnering with iconic North American retailers to maximize growth against a increasingly negative backdrop of store closures and job losses.
To the future.
